बुन्देलखण्ड के घोंघे प्यासे क्यों
बुन्देलखण्ड में लगभग सभी तालाब प्राचीन पुराने हैं। प्राचीन काल में तालाबों के बाँधों, जल एवं भराव क्षेत्र की सुरक्षा, दुरुस्ती एवं रख-रखाव का दायित्व जनता का ही होता था। तालाबों के फीडिंग एरिया (धरातलीय जल आवक क्षेत्र) में कृषि नहीं होने दी जाती थी। फीडिंग एरिया में पेड़-पौधे रखे जाते थे। वह चरौखर क्षेत्र होता था। चरौखर में मवेशी चरते थे और दोपहर में तालाबों में पानी पीकर लौटकर चरागाहों में जाकर पेड़ों के नीचे ‘गौठान-बैठान’ (नियत स्थल) पर बैठकर सुस्ताया करते थे।
बुन्देलखण्ड में भूमि के अन्दर ग्रेनाइट पत्थर की चट्टानें चादर की तरह अथवा आड़ी-तिरछी खड़ी-बिछी पड़ी हुई हैं जिनमें भूगर्भीय जलस्रोत होते ही नहीं हैं। जिस कारण यहाँ के व्यक्ति बरसाती संग्रहीत धरातलीय जल पर ही निर्भर रहते रहे हैं। फिर वह चाहे तालाबों में संग्रहीत किया हुआ जल हो अथवा कुँओं, बावड़ियों में झिरन, रिसन वाला जल हो। किसी प्रकार, यदि प्राप्त संग्रहीत जल बर्बाद न हो तो एक वर्ष तक का काम चल जाता है।
